For exceptionally meritorious achievement in the performance of outstanding service: the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and its attached units: distinguished themselves in support of military operations in the Republic of Vietnam during the period 28 July 1966 to 28 May 1967. Exemplifying massive firepower and excellent fire support, the brigade refined and implemented flexibility in maneuvering attached battalions to engage the insurgents with speed and accuracy. By utilizing available Army and Air Force air power, the unit was able to achieve a series of unparalleled successes. The constant harassment of hostile elements resulted in the capture of several thousand tons of food, numerous enemy weapons and an incredible amount of enemy munitions. With professional skill and unrelenting effort, the members of the Headquarters Company 3d Brigade, 1st Infantry Division worked diligently on a pacification program consisting of combat support and community rehabilitation which fostered a warm rapport between the local populace and United States personnel. This two-pronged program against the insurgents permitted the local Vietnamese to enjoy a previously unknown security. Through their initiative, resourcefulness, flexibility and readiness to resort to the expedient, the unit's members have contributed significantly to the overall counterinsurgency effort in the Republic of Vietnam. The remarkable proficiency and devotion to duty displayed by the members of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Brigade, 1st Infantry Division are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect distinct credit upon themselves and the Armed Forces of the United States.

Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and its attached units distinguished themselves while in support of military operations in the Republic of Vietnam during the period 1 June 1967 to 30 August 1968. Throughout the period the officers and men of the company characterized uncommon resourcefulness and professional excellence in providing outstanding command and control of operations for the tactical units of the 3d Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. Utilizing dynamic leadership, exacting supervision, and foresight, unit personnel effectively countered the myriad problems inherent in the diverse and complex functions of their numerous missions. Exercising control of available Army and Air Force air power while coordinating all supporting artillery fire, the members of HEADDQUARTERS AND HEADQUARTERS COMPANY, 3D BRIGADE, 1ST INFANTRY DIVISION contributed immeasurably to the success of operations Shenandoa II, Quyet Thang and Toan Thang. In addition to directing B-52 raids and tactical Air Support Sorties, they masterfully employed Reconnaissance In Force operations. Checkerboard techniques and multiple ambushes to completely disrupt enemy activity within the division's area of responsibility, thereby materially advancing the Free World military effort in the Republic of Vietnam. The remarkable proficiency and devotion to duty displayed by the members of HEADQUARTERS AND HEADQUARTERS, 3D BRIGADE, 1ST INFANTRY DIVISION are in keeping with highest traditions of the military service and reflect distinct credit upon themselves, their unit and the Armed Forces of the United States.

Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st
Infantry Division and attached units distinguished themselves in support of
military operation in the Republic of Vietnam during the period 1 January
1968 to 31 December 1968. The members of the foregoing units demonstrated
extraordinary proficiency, expert professionalism, and perseverance in the
performance of combat service support operations in the Republic of Vietnam.
Through unerring work and devotion to duty, the units produced exceptional
results in the accomplishment of all tasks undertaken. At times under
extremely hazardous rocket and mortar barrages, the members of the units
dauntlessly pursued the support operations needed to keep the men in the
field supplied with equipment and simultaneously participated in the defense
of Lai Khe Base Camp. Through aggressive determination and unrelenting
professional skill, personnel of Headquarters and attached units have
materially contributed to the ability of the 1st Infantry
Division to consistently inflict decisive defeats on the insurgents. Sparing
no effort and with complete disregard for their own personal safety the men
overcame numerous obstacles to accomplish their assigned missions and more.
The tenacity and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by members of
Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Infantry Division and
attached units are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military
service and reflect great credit on them and the Armed Forces of the United
States.
